Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to learn an instrument?

To really master some basics and be able to get a lot of joy from music, 2 to 3 years but you never really stop learning.

Some of my adult students come to me with the goal of playing pieces like Baker Street and they have managed this within two years.

Can I book a block of lessons?

Yes, I usually invoice student lessons half termly in advance of the lessons taking place.

What if my instrument breaks?

I am proficient at fixing many common issues, e.g a key has fallen off of cork needs replacing. Routine maintenance of instruments is taught and included within the lesson pricing.

For larger problems I highly recommend Dave Walker at All Brass and Woodwind. https://all-brass-and-woodwind.webflow.io/

How much practice should be done each week?

Short 10-15 minute stints for beginners 3-4 times a week often make better progress than and hour in one go a week. The more the better, always!!

Do you give online lessons too?

Yes! The pandemic has proved this is an effective way to still learn an instrument. I am able to provide lessons on Google Meet and will offer them as an alternative if weather or traffic stops you from getting here.

What is your cancellation policy?

A lesson time is reserved for the student each week whether or not the student attends. Your tuition pays for this scheduled time as well as planning time, travel and studio costs.

48 hour cancellation notice is required otherwise you will still be charged. If notice is made in an appropriate time an alternative time may be offered at the teacher’s convenience. Lessons missed by the teacher will be made up at a mutually convenient time. Online lessons are also available for issues relating to weather, travel or covid-19.

We DO NOT offer refunds. Once payment has been received the student must commit to taking the lessons purchased or they will forfeit the remaining lesson fee(s).

Students who cancel their regular time slot too often may have their place given to a more committed student.

*Please note these policies are subject to change without notice.

Lessons are paid for in advance via bank transfer.
